TEL Trainer of the Month

February TEL Trainer of the Month: Tina Graves Johnson
by Jennifer Wooters

Congratulations to Tina Graves Johnson, TEL’s Trainer of the Month!  For 12 years, Tina has been the librarian/media specialist at Trinity Christian Academy in Jackson, TN.  Tina is married to Johnny Johnson, the pastor of Oakfield Baptist Church. Their daughter Hillary is 20 years old, and daughter Britt is 19.  Tina became a TEL trainer for three reasons.  First, it seemed fulfilling and interesting.  She says, “I considered this to be a wonderful, new, and unique opportunity.” Second, she was eager to help Sue.  Finally, Tina thought she could learn new things and benefit as she taught other people to use TEL.

And Tina was right! As she learned more about TEL, she found two features that are especially useful to the teachers and students at Trinity Christian Academy: KidsInfo Bits and StudentEd.  Tina says, “They are user friendly and easily accessible.  The graphics are clear, simple and fun.  These features allow students to learn in an exciting, immersing way.”  The Test Preparation database (LearningExpress Library) allows students to access various tests and questions that they will later see on standardized tests.  This feature is especially user-friendly because students can pause or stop the practice test, return later, and start again at their convenience.  Tina also likes TEL because it allows access to essays and articles for research purposes.  Tina notes that these research tools are useful to teachers as well as students.

Though Tina is relatively new to TEL training, she has already found it to be rewarding.  She says, “I have gained several wonderful memories while working with this program.  I am constantly overjoyed by the sound of my participants’ responses to this program!  Every time I hear, ‘Oh, I see!’ or ‘Yes, my students can use this,’ or my favorite, ‘You mean I can get this information on here?’ This makes it all worthwhile for me as a volunteer for the Tennessee Electronic Library Training Workshops.”

Thank you, Tina, for your work with TEL! We appreciate your contribution to education and information sharing in Tennessee.
